why websites fail

Pretty, uneditable, unscalable

Funeral Partners took 100+ branded sites in one programme - part of 350+ projects since 2005. Conversion paths, CMS ownership and rollout scale decide whether a website development company ships value or polish.

[ 01 ]

Pretty sites that do not convert

Redesigns ship looks without journey clarity. Traffic arrives; enquiries do not.

Journey firstConverting paths mapped before a single template ships
[ 02 ]

CMS nobody on the team can run

Editors locked out of their own content. Every copy change becomes a ticket and a delay.

Editor-readyCMS model agreed before build, not in week twelve
[ 03 ]

Rollouts that do not scale

One-off builds that collapse when you need 10 or 100 branded variants. Funeral Partners needed 100+ sites in one programme.

capabilities

Sites, shops, CMS and apps

Corporate & marketing sites

Speed, clarity and editorial control on Astro, Next.js or WordPress - stack follows the job, not the fashion.

E-commerce

Catalogues, carts and checkout for real product complexity - WooCommerce and custom systems for regulated and industrial buyers.

Mobile apps

Native or companion apps when a stretched website will not cut it - trade-offs scoped before screens get drawn.

CMS development

Payload, WordPress and headless setups editors can run without raising a ticket for every line change.

Migrations & rebuilds

Leave a brittle stack without torching SEO - redirect maps, content models and full testing on the way out.

Performance & technical SEO

Core Web Vitals, crawl clarity and templates built to rank - planned into the scope and tested before launch, not bolted on later.

typical capabilities

What usually ships in a modern site build

CMS editing, SEO, performance, forms, accessibility and analytics - agreed in the scope, not bolted on as a change-request list later.

Scale and speed with senior craft

[ 01 ]

100+ sites in one Funeral Partners rollout

Proof of scale on websites only - shared foundations where they help, local brand where it matters. Not a one-off brochure rebuild.

[ 02 ]

Built to keep getting better

Typically live in 2 to 4 weeks for a brand and lead-gen site, 4 to 6 for a catalogue or content platform, once scope is agreed. Then it keeps improving from real visitor data, with new pages ready in days when your next push needs them.

[ 03 ]

Shipping sites since 2005

Established 2005. Corporate, eCommerce, WordPress, CMS and app work across 350+ projects.

[ 04 ]

Senior craft, direct

The people who map journeys and SEO stay on the build. No account-manager relay, no bait-and-switch after the pitch. Reading, UK.

[ 05 ]

QA, accessibility and speed checked before launch

Performance, accessibility, security scanning and deep QA happen before launch, not as a post-mortem.

[ 06 ]

60+ five-star Google reviews

UK clients rate delivery in public - useful when evidence beats a brochure from the next web design agency uk on the list.

We've recently completed Phase 1 of a bespoke business valuation tool with James at Code23, and I've been extremely impressed. He has taken the time to understand both the commercial and technical requirements, communicated clearly throughout, and delivered a well-thought-out system with a high level of flexibility. The admin dashboard, in particular, gives us full control over the scoring and valuation logic, which was a key requirement. I'm looking forward to working with James on Phase 2 and would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone looking for bespoke software development – Jason Atkins, Director, Lansley Commercial

faq

Website and app questions, answered

How much does it cost to develop a website in the UK?

There is no single UK price because a brochure site and a custom catalogue platform are different jobs. We agree templates, CMS depth and integrations first, then current pricing is confirmed against that agreed scope.

Which platform should I use for my new website?

It depends on the job: WordPress for content teams, Shopify or WooCommerce for eCommerce, Payload for headless, custom for product-grade sites. We recommend what the business needs, not what we feel like building.

How long does a website project take?

A brand and lead-gen website typically takes 2 to 4 weeks, and a catalogue or content platform 4 to 6. Multi-site rollouts take longer - we say which you are buying up front. Content and migrations usually set the critical path.

Do you still build WordPress sites?

Yes. WordPress delivery since 2005 sits alongside Astro, Next.js, SvelteKit and Payload. Stack follows the brief.

Can you rebuild an existing site without losing SEO?

Yes. Redirect maps, URL planning and content migration are planned and tested before go-live - SEO is not a post-launch patch.

Do you use AI to build websites?

We use AI tools during development, with senior specialists responsible for the work and its release. Every site still goes through accessibility, security and performance testing before launch.
